Game picks for today
Sunday 22 May 2005
I'm not expecting particularly attractive basketball to start off the season, especially with several teams missing key players.
Connecticut 71 Detroit 61
The Sun looked pretty sharp in the preseason and the lack of Swin Cash will hurt the Shock.
Los Angeles 74 Seattle 63
Many are predicting a Seattle caning but I think Seattle will play with emotion (raising of the banner) and no Mabika does hurt L.A. With LJ not at full speed yet and a rusty looking preseason, L.A should take the win.
Charlotte 63 Washington 53
Beard is doubtful and Charlotte is Charlotte. Sam and Smith will take a lot shots but they'll probably miss a lot of them.
Houston 70 San Antonio 58
San Antonio stole an unlikely win on opening night at Houston last year. I think the Comets may return the favour this year and their veterans will probably be too much for the SASS' youth movement.
Sacramento 77 Phoenix 72
Phoenix's posts will have to play the game of their lives in order for Phoenix to win - keep Yo and Brunson off the boards and then provide some scoring at the other end to open things up for the shooters. The Monarchs at full strength will probably be too much for undermanned Phoenix.

Comments
Hard to argue with any of those picks.
I just hope we see some free-flowing basketball, meaning that the players & referees quickly get adjusted to the rule changes.
Hopefully Phoenix won't give up 77 points at home either.
