My final 2005 WNBA mock draft
Friday 15 April 2005
#1 Charlotte - Janel McCarville
#2 Indiana - Tan White
These two picks are interchangeable. I think the Sting will go with McCarville because they think they'll need a power player to compete with the West and they like her skill set. It will not surprise me if they take White though.
#3 Phoenix - Sandora Irvin
NL - stop rumour mongering!
#4 Kendra Wecker
#5 Houston - Temeka Johnson
#6 Washington - Kara Braxton
Kara's a toughie. On talent, she'd be a lock for #1 but there are "extenuating circumstances". I can see a team in the top 5 taking a flyer on her but #6 is a good position for her and the Mystics could really use a real centre.
#7 Detroit - Sancho Lyttle
I have a feeling BL might like her potential. Alternative picks could be Roneeka Hodges and Kristen Mann: wings who can shoot it.
#8 Connecticut - Katie Feenstra
I don't know if the #8 pick is going to be traded to San Antonio for Dydek with a future first rounder. I generally don't factor in potential draft trades into my mock drafts. However, SASS might want Feenstra anyways. Jessie Hicks and Adrian Williams at centre is laughable.
#9 Sacramento - Roneeka Hodges
Apparently had a good combine. A wing who can shoot - good fit for the Monarchs. Of course, they could do their usual and draft another tweener forward (Ely, Mann, Batteast)
#10 New York - Dionnah Jackson
Jackson didn't have a good combine but she is still a pretty decent player nevertheless and could complement Hammon nicely with her versatility and D.
#11 Minnesota - Shyra Ely
Another player who had a good combine. She certainly could fit the "best player left" category. She's got the talent but never could put it together at Tennessee. Can she do a Michelle Snow in the WNBA?
#12 Seattle - Tanisha Wright
Plays D, wouldn't need to do much else on the Seattle team. This pick could be too 'optimistic' though.
#13 Washington - Kristen Mann
Big small forward, can shoot = good fit for Mystics. Usual disclaimers about Hargrove applies.
The rest
#14 San Antonio - Jacqueline Batteast
#15 Houston - Kristin Haynie
#16 Indiana - Steffanie Blackmon
#17 Minnesota - Angelina Williams
#18 Phoenix - Nikita Bell
#19 Washington - Anne O'Neil
#20 Detroit - Dee Dee Wheeler
#21 Connecticut - Ashley Earley
#22 Sacramento - Yolanda Paige
#23 New York - Jamie Carey
#24 Charlotte - Loree Moore
#25 Seattle - Erica Taylor
#26 Los Angeles - Ashley Battle
#27 San Antonio - Andrea Bills
#28 Houston - Jessica Moore
#29 Indiana - Cathrine Kraayeveld
#30 Sacramento - Natasha Brackett
#31 Phoenix - Chelsea Newton
#32 Washington - Jess Strom
#33 Detroit - Anna Montanana
#34 Connecticut - Jenni Dant
#35 Sacramento - Jenni Lingor
#36 New York - Cisti Greenwalt
#37 Minnesota - Jessalyn Deveny
#38 Seattle - Sara Potts
#39 Los Angeles - Caity Matter
Player with most potential to screw up mock drafts: Kara Braxton. Her potential is obvious and in a draft where there's no obvious future All-Star types, lottery teams may choose to gamble. I wouldn't be surprised to see her go as high as #2.

Comments
Ashley Battle??? I don't see Chelsea Newton being drafted and not her. Afterall AB was rumored to have had a good combine and went to 3 Final 4's and was the 2003 BE Defensive POTY
