Sheri Sam signs with the Sting

Some people seem to think this is mainly a pay issue but I don't think it is. Let's look at the facts:

* Anne Donovan was not impressed with Sheri skipping the Olympic Break program so that she could have a bit of R&R in Athens.

* Sheri was not in the Championship Starting 5 photo. Alicia Thompson replaced her.

* Sheri was not on the Championship T-Shirt.

So I don't think it's likely Sheri would have been back, in any case.

So is Sheri worth her 70-something k a year for three years? On the plus side, she's an above average rebounder for a wing, can pass and can score in spurts. On the minus side, her offence only shows up once every couple of games, her D is uninspired at the best of times and her game has deteriorated sharply in the last couple of years and doesn't seem to work very well when she's not the focus of the offence. Charlotte will probably start her and relegate Stinson to the bench (or dump her) but starting Tynesha Lewis could have been a better idea.

As for Seattle, they will miss Sam a bit but her contributions are the most easily replaced out of the starting five and the money is better spent elsewhere.

Sacramento matches for DeMya Walker

No surprise here. Watch out for Sac, they have a big personnel move lined up.

Houston signs Tari Phillips

A good signing for Houston, as it fills the gap that Tina left and Tari can finally play her natural position (the 4). While she won't replace Tina's scoring, she'll bring better rebounding and more physicality in the paint.

As a sidenote, I wonder if the Swoopes trade thing will pan out. It will be very hard to find something of equal value and I doubt the Comets would want to trade her to an in-conference rival (i.e LA). Maybe Van and his crew will get over her "transgression".

Hi Platypus, how are you? Great to see your womens basketball blog going from strength to strength. And your posts are always very informative, keep up the good work!

Hi. Interesting thought. Paige has not signed with Dc yet. Both she and Mique are playing in Spain. Im looking at both leaving DC. Dc sure is too quiet on web site. You have any thought on this one?

Well the Claw trade has occurred! I don't expect Page to be back either.
