Random thoughts on teams who played last night

Saturday 31 July 2004

* The East are slaves to parity. Last night, the two intra-East contests saw the lower-ranked team win and there's currently only one team over .500. At the end of today, there may still be only one team over .500 and it will probably be New York or Connecticut (unless Charlotte can find a way to overcome a pissed off Monarchs). The carousel continues...

* Seattle experienced a reversal of their recent team performances - LJ had a pretty cold night but the team stepped up. Nice to see Betty find some shooting form and to see someone contributing from the bench (great work Simone).

In his latest weekly roundup of the West on FCP, Clay Kallam said he thought Seattle was underachieving. I don't think so - second in the West is pretty good and the Sparks are a much more experienced team and probably have a wee more talent (Mabika is better than either Lennox or Sam).

* SASS' litany of woes continues with the resigning of their head coach and then going to lose to a Mercury with a hobbled DT.

It's pretty easy to see where SASS "jumped the shark". It was that mind boggling Natalie Williams trade. They've never been the same since. SASS essentially traded Natalie Williams and Coretta Brown for... Adrian Williams. What a payoff!

Oh well, Augustus/Currie may lie on the horizon...

As a sidenote, is Tocarra Williams like Teresa Weatherspoon Mark II? Good defensive player, could develop into a solid floor leader but where's the offence?
