Game picks for today
Sunday 23 May 2004
Current record: 3-2 (Comets and Sting - erratic as hell)
Phoenix 79 Connecticut 75
Phoenix has DT now and Connecticut doesn't. Conn doesn't have an inside game to smash the Merc with and I don't think they can stop DT or PT. The crowd may also be on DT's side.
Charlotte 69 Washington 67
Contrary to my VGM coaching pick, I think Charlotte will do a Comets and feel they have something to prove after a bleh-worthy opening to the season.
San Antonio 71 Detroit 69
Call me crazy but I think it's possible.
Sacramento 83 Minnesota 72
Sac's experience and depth beats out the Lynx's youth.
Los Angeles 69 Seattle 64
Wild Betty finds it hard to string two good games in a row and I just have this feeling the Sparks will win (since when is sport rational?)

Comments
Enjoying your picks and commentary as always. Reactions, now that the scores are up: Merc/ Sun: wow, that first half looked awful-- but I wonder whether Lindsay won't do fine as a 1 guard: she did everything right except make those easy layups. (And she's not, repeat not, one of those TJ-type shoot-first guards: one of the defining traits of her Minnesota play was that she would always choose an assist over a score. On the other hand, she's notoriously not much of a defender: why would Thibault put her on DT? --Everyone in Minnesota hates Thibault, though; maybe I'm not reliable there.) Lynx/ Sacto: Katie appears to be all the experience we need, though I guess you're right about Ohlde vs. the Sacto frontcourt. Storm/ Sparks: I assume you're happy about the result, but we're all waiting for you to explain it, especially since Sara and Ted are offline. 93 points?

Storm/Sparks - well it's early in the season but the Storm have come ready to play while the Sparks haven't. Can't remember the last time LL got so few rebounds.
There may be a fair amount of parity in the league this season.
