womenscollegehoops.com have claimed that they're the most accurate overall preseason poll but alas if we use their criteria, it is not so. Comparing their 2002-03 poll to the ESPN Board Junkies 2002-03 Amalgam Preseason Top 25 Poll (there's a cumbersome name for you!), we get some interesting results. Top 25:
Amalgam poll - 20, WCH - 19
Final Four:
Amalgam poll - 18, WCH - 23
Championship:
Amalgam poll - 9, WCH - 10
Add to the fact that out of the top 8 of the Amalgam poll, seven went to the elite 8 (WCH had 6) and out of the top 16, 11 in the Amalgam poll went to the Sweet 16 (WCH had 10) - I think we have a clear winner. Can the Amalgam poll do this consistently? Who knows but we shall find out again at the end of this current season.
So the new Amalgam poll should be taken seriously even though Iowa State at #25 may put you off ;)
