WNBA finals prediction
Friday 12 September 2003
Well I was spot on with my last round of predictions which was a nice surprise. Just a few quick notes about this series (I'm tired and want to go to bed):
#1 It's going to be very physical.
#2 Experience is everything in playoffs
Cash will probably abuse whoever is put on her. On the other hand, while Ford and Riley may have the attitude to deal with Milton and Leslie - they don't have the experience. The refs may also influence how the series pans out. Not by specific discrimination but how tightly they call the games. Foul trouble would be the death knell for the Sparks (especially if it was Milton or Leslie). The Shock can absorb foul trouble a bit better. Hopefully the refs do raise their game a bit. The physicality in this series could easily spiral out of control.
Whoever wins game 1 will probably determine who wins the series. I'll go with L.A in three. I'll also predict that the reffing will be wildly inconsistent with one game being a foul fest, another one will be letting them play and the third somewhere in the middle.
Key matchup: There's too many though a potential Nolan/Dixon one would be the most interesting.
Post-script: Rumours about how LJ is going to get MVP. In the studio? Lame. Some sort of season ticket holders and others function would be nice. Supposedly they're looking at a live hook-up from Seattle which is better.

Is Lauren Jackson playing in the WNBL (Canberra) this year? You would think an article about the WNBL and the upcoming season would at least mention her...

Accidentally deleted one of mb's comments in a spam purge. Oops!
"Isn't LJ under contract with Canberra...I thought last time she signed it was for three years. Some rumblings of internal friction made it my way. Seems she had a little of a prima donna thing going last season. Played damn well considering the shin splints and other injuries, I thought. It should be an interesting year: WNBL season, Olympics, top college prospects and great draft. Your assessment of the how the officiating may go (bad, better, between) is spot on. Hope it is called relatively fair. Go Shock!!!"
